Gourmet Holiday Dinner In 1853 James Semple founded the village of Elsah and offered free lots to anyone who built houses with stone from his quarry. Although Elsah has been described as the "New England of the Midwest," the village is not a New England prototype derived from 18th century colonial styles but rather Elsah’s architecture demonstrates 19th century styles and fashions. Every December, the village of Elsah invites you to visit their community to celebrate the holidays in this quaint and picturesque community. December 1st, 2007 will surely reveal the enchantment of this historic village. The streets will be filled with visitors and carolers hoping to catch a glimpse of Mr. and Mrs. Clause. At 6 pm join the villagers at the riverfront for a candlelight-caroling walk to the Methodist Church for the annual lighting of the village Christmas tree at 6:30 pm.
