| An Invitation to Participate
9th Annual Photography Exhibit Submissions must be received by July 11, 2008 The Village of Elsah Museum
announces the 2008 Annual Photography Exhibit to be held July 26 to October 18,
2008. The exhibit is entitled “Colors and Contrasts of Elsah”
and will be held in the Museum building, known as the Village Hall, at 26
LaSalle Street, Elsah, Illinois. The purpose of the exhibit is to celebrate and
foster an appreciation of the beauty and unique qualities of Elsah and the
immediate area in every season. Photographers,
amateur and professional, are invited to make submissions to the exhibit and
participate in the purchase prize portion of the exhibit. As in previous years,
the photographers may sell their displayed photographs to the public retaining
all proceeds. This is the 9th annual exhibit and the seventh year for which there will be a first place purchase prize. The first place prize will be purchased by the Museum for $150 for the matted print as well as permission to use the photograph in publicity for the 2008 and 2009 exhibits as well as printed material generated as a result of the current or next year's exhibit. There will be certificates to recognize additional works. In order to recognize
places of interest in the entire Elsah corporate limits, in 2008, there will be
two first place purchase prizes based on location. One prize will be for a
photograph taken in the valley area and one on the bluffs, either on the
Principia College Campus, Eliestoun or other familiar locations close to these
geographic areas. Works submitted for the
purchase prize will be judged on the following criteria: O
Expression
of the theme, “Colors and Contrasts of Elsah” O
Quality
of the photographic composition and
quality
of the photographic reproduction. In order for photographs to
be considered for the purchase prize, photographs submitted (silver gelatin,
color, digitally or photographically produced) must be: O
at
least, 8 X 10 print size and O
matted (mat not to exceed 16 X 20.) In addition, photographs
may be submitted for the exhibition only, not participating in the purchase
prize activity. Please include the words, “Exhibition only” on the back of
the mat or on the transmittal sheet. Photographs will only be accepted that are
on theme and taken in the Village of Elsah or the immediate area. It is highly recommended, but not
required, that the matted print be either framed or in a clear covering. Each photographer may submit up to four photographs. Information on the back of the mat must include the name of the photographer, title, price (if for sale), mailing address and contact numbers. Also, please include a temporary, removable, title card without the photographer’s name to be affixed to the front of the photograph for purposes of judging. Submissions must be received by July
11, 2008, delivered to the
Museum during open hours or mailed to P.O. Box 28, Elsah, Illinois 62028. It is the
responsibility of the photographer to arrange for the return of his/her
photographs after the exhibit. Those not picked up within a month shall become
the property of the Village of Elsah. Judging will occur prior to the opening of the show on July 26, 2008. Winners will be notified in writing or email. It is not necessary to be present in the area to receive recognition. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2008 from 1 to 4. Refreshments will be served. The Museum is pleased to announce that Janice Nesser-Chu, a working photographer/artist and photography professor, will judge the 2008 exhibit.
